Newly appointed Censor Board chief, Prasoon Joshi has banned the first film after 12 days of his joining and it is none other than the controversial Punjabi flick Toofan Singh.

After replacing Pahlaj Nihalani, Prasoon took over the prestigious position of Censor Board's chief and just 12 days after taking over refused certification to Toofan Singh on the grounds of excessive violence. The film, however, has been released overseas.

According to the reports published by a leading, a source from the Censor Board said, “Toofan Singh is a terrorist, who goes on a rampage killing corrupt cops and politicians. And they’ve compared him to Bhagat Singh. The film is brutal and anarchic. We couldn’t empathise with its message of brute power, let alone grant it a censor certificate.”

The Baghal Singh directorial, Toofan Singh, features Ranjit Bawa as Toofan Singh who fights against corruption in the Indian bureaucracy and politics with terrorist tactics.

The existing board has also been reconstituted with new members: Vidya Balan, Vivek Agnihotri, Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, Waman Kendre, T S Nagabharana, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripati Tikoo, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Mihir Bhuta.
