Tiger Shroff arrived in Cannes to unveil the first look poster of the official Indian remake of “Rambo,” to be directed by Siddharth Anand. Shroff will star in the film and M! Capital Ventures, Original Entertainment, Impact Films and Siddharth Anand Pictures will co-produce the film. Principal photography is slated to commence in Feb. 2018 targeting a late 2018 release.
This big-budget action feature will be given a ‘desi’ twist. It will follow the last surviving member of an elite covert unit of the Indian Armed forces who returns home to discover a war waging in his land. Forced into the dangerous jungles and frozen mountains of the Himalayas, he unleashes mayhem and destruction, becoming the unstoppable machine he was trained to be. Shades of “Commando?” or was that 2013 Vidyut Jammwal film “inspired” by “First Blood?”
Director Anand said, “The original is one of the most iconic action blockbuster films from my generation. I grew up looking up to heroes such as Sylvester Stallone, and at a time where the Indian industry is lacking action characters of Rambo’s caliber, this is a perfect time to introduce Tiger in this role. I cannot wait to work with Tiger on this film; he has that aura about him, power and vulnerability that will make him the next iconic action hero of our time.”
Anand’s last directorial feature was the 2014 film “Bang Bang!” the Indian remake of the Tom Cruise film “Knight and Day,” which grossed over $55 million USD worldwide. The Hindi version also crossed 150 crore nett in India, but underperformed vis-à-vis its huge budget, which we hope will be carefully monitored this time!

“I read recently they are remaking Rambo in India! Great character. Hope they don’t wreck it,” Stallone captioned the image.
