Chamkila Release Stays Cancelled, Imtiaz Ali, Diljit Dosanjh & Parineeti Chopra To Appear In The Local Court Tomorrow

Fans have eagerly been waiting for the release of the biopic of legendary Punjabi singer, Amar Singh Chamkila. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles.

However, the film had landed itself in a controversy due to which the release of the film was cancelled. In the latest update, it has been reported that the Ludhiana Court has asked director Imtiaz Ali, Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra and late singer Amar Singh Chamkila’s wife, Gurmail Kaur to appear in the court on May 3. "A petition was filed in the court on March 21 seeking a stay on the movie," said District Attorney Pooja Singhal.

THE CONTROVERSY:

Actually, a local court has reserved Reliance Entertainment, producer Imitiaz Ali, actor Diljit Dosanjh, Parineeti Chopra and Gurmail Kaur, wife of late Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, from broadcasting, releasing, uploading and streaming the biopic (film) on Chamkila and singer Bibi Amarjot Kaur in any manner.

The court of Civil Judge, Senior Division, Harsimranjit Singh issued the decision in response to a petition filed by Ishjeet Randhawa and Sanjot Randhawa, sons of deceased producer Gurdev Singh Randhawa. On October 12, 2012, Chamkila's wife (Gurmail Kaur) allegedly gave Randhawa’s father the rights to make a biopic about her husband, Amar Singh Chamkila for which she had also received Rs. 5 Lakh. There was no set timeline for making the biopic.

Furthermore, it was revealed by the petitioners that their father passed away on November 03, 2022. When the petitioner began making plans for the biopic and contacted Gurmail Kaur, she began delaying the matter on various grounds. They later discovered that the defendants were already working on a film about Chamkila and Bibi Amarjot Kaur in collaboration with one another.
