The news of theatre and film artist Vijay Sharma’s demise, who worked in Punjabi plays and films, came as a shock to the entire industry. Sharma breathed his last on 27th January 2022.
To tell you a little about him, Sharma began theatre in 1977. What started as a hobby became a passion and Sharma never looked back. Even at a time when Doordarshan was the only entertainment channel, he worked in plays like ‘Mr Galad’, ‘Pehredar’, ‘Adjustment’, ‘Juttian Da Jora’, ‘Apna Apna Hissa’, etc, which were aired on Jalandhar Doordarshan. Then, he further stepped into films where he was a part of many famous flicks including ‘Ikko Mikke’, ‘Tara Mira’, ‘Ashke’, ‘Eh Janam Tumhare Lekhe’, ‘Jamraud’ and ‘Gawachi Pagg’. Film director Navtej Sandhu put up a post in his memory, which said, “Another gem of Amritsar Theater & Film artist gone ... our beloved Sh. Vijay Sharma Ji… He was a very noble soul - a great human being ... I had a long association with him since 1993 ... He worked in my films Gawachi Pagg, Jamraud etc. also ... You will be dearly missed Sir ... RIP”.
