Punjabi movies have a way of uplifting your mood whenever you put it on and comedy is a classic genre for the industry. So here is a list of comedy films that are timeless and will make you laugh irrespective of the time or day.
Jatt and Juliet (1 and 2)
The romantic comedies about Fateh Singh and Pooja will leave your heart warm and you smiling. While both the films feature the fan-favorite duo of Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa and similar plotlines, the films are not interconnected. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by produced by Darshan Singh Grewal and Gunbir Singh Sidhu, both the films gained a lot of traction when they were first released.
An interesting fact is that ‘Jatt and Juliet’ was the first Punjabi film to have a sequel and both the parts broke box-office records when they were released in 2012 and 2013 respectively.
Carry on Jatta
The 2012 comedy film is literally the Punjabi version of Shakespeare’s ‘Comedy of Errors’. The director is Smeep Kang while the writer is Naresh Kathuria. The film casts Gippy Grewal, Mahie Gill, Binnu Dhillon, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaswinder Bhalla and Rana Ranbir in the lead.

Jihne Mera Dil Luteya
Who doesn’t love a love triangle? Put in Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa and Gippy Grewal as the lead cast— what to expect? A perfect film that will make you laugh, cry and want to go out and experience your own love story!
The film, directed by Mandeep Kumar revolves around Yuvraj and Gurnoor, college rivals, who fall for the same girl, enter Neeru Bajwa aka Noor. While Yuvraj and Gurnoor fight for Noor’s attention will she choose either one of them or is there someone else in the picture? Watch the film to know how it ends!

The film is written and produced by Gippy Grewal who is also the lead opposite Sonam Bajwa. The story goes as such, Sukhi (Gippy Grewal) goes from house to house in the village collecting beds for the incoming guests for the wedding when he comes across Rano (Sonam Bajwa). While Sukhi falls in love with her at first sight, Rano, Sukhi's sister's friend, is a hesitant lover and during their romantic development, many colorful characters appear. There is another person named Daddy who helped both of them to get together.
But the funniest character in the whole film is without doubt Karamjit Anmol who plays the old man, Sadhu Halwai.
Mr. & Mrs 420
The 2014 film directed by Ksshitij Chaudhary casts Yuvraj Hans, Jassi Gill, Binnu Dhillon, Babbal Rai and Jaswinder Bhalla among others. Just looking at the star cast one can decipher that this will be a comedy film.
The story revolves around three friends with big dreams which land them in a new city. But life isn’t so easy when you don’t have a lot of opportunities and in addition to that, are thrown out of your house! Things get interesting when the only places they have a budget for requires married couples. So the two of them somehow convince Binnu Dhillon and Babbal Rai to play their wives, in order to get a roof on their head.
The real ROFL moment comes when Jaswinder Bhalla, who plays the landlord, starts flirting with Binnu Dhillon! So go watch the film to look at their shenanigans as they fight their circumstances with their impeccable comic timing.
Kala Shah Kala
Written and directed by Amarjit Singh Saron, ‘Kala Shah Kala’ follows the story of Lovely, a happy and charming guy who struggles to find the love of his life because of his dark complexion.
Lovely, played by Binnu Dhillon falls for Sargun Mehta’s character, Pammi whose only wish is to not have a husband like Lovely. However, as the movie progresses, Pammi gets married to Lovely, but Pammi likes Jaggi (Jordan Sandhu), a guy who lives in her village with relatives. After they are both married, to get rid of Lovely, Pammi starts acting as if she is possessed by a ghost. Lovely and his superstitious family start getting frightened by her. The film is filled with eccentric events and the quirky characters add to the whole experience. This film picks up a serious issue and presents it to you in a way that is lighthearted, making the film evergreen.
A cute love story about Nikka (Ammy Virk), a student in Patiala who falls for Manraaj Kaur (Sonam Bajwa) but she refuses to engage romantically with him saying that she would only marry a guy that her family chooses for her. So Nikka hatches a plan to send his friend Bhola as a mediator to convince his and Manraaj's family. However, his grandmother played by Nirmal Rishi refuses saying that he is too young.
This results in Nikka leaving college and sending Bhola once again. But fate is just not on their side and even though his grandmother agrees this time, they fix his marriage with Manraj's older sister Seerat instead of Manraaj. A comedy of errors begins as Nikka and Manraaj fall in love and plan to elope.
The film is a sequence of hilarious acts one after the other and will leave you in splits once this chaos begins. At the same time the real showstopper was Nirmal Rishi, who stole the show as a typical Punjabi grandmother who is strict and yet savage with her replies! Another Diljit Dosanjh movie directed by Mandeep Kumar and written by Dheeraj Rattan. While this movie has a climax that will keep you at the edge of your seats, it also has a love triangle!
The film is about Jatt Ambarsariya, who is also a RAW agent but things may not be as simple as they look. While on a mission in Ambarsar, Jatt meets Jasleeen Kaur and Kirat and falls in love with both of them. Diljit’s shenanigans as he tries to make time for both the girls while managing two jobs will make the film enjoyable on any given day!
