The bail plea issued by Gurdas Maan’s lawyer has been rejected by the Jalandhar Sessions Court.
Punjabi singer-actor Gurdas Maan was charged with Section 295-A of the IPC, for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikh community after he made objectionable remarks at a religious fair in Dera Baba Murad Shah in Nakodar, last month. He had described Ladi Shah, the current head of the Dera as a descendant of the third Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Amar Das Ji.
In response, Sikh organizations, including the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, had filed a case against him for hurting the religious sentiments of the community. Also Read: FIR Against Actor Rajat Bedi As He Hits Pedestrian, Victim In Critical Condition!
Following the uproar, Maan had issued an apology video on his social media and his lawyer had filed an anticipatory bail petition in the District and Sessions Court. During the hearing, Parminder Singh Dhingra and Ravinder Singh, who are representatives of the Sikh organizations, mentioned that Maan should not be given bail considering it would anger the community.
This resulted in the Additional Sessions Judge Manjinder Singh, dismissing Maan’s bail application in the Jalandhar Sessions Court today.
