Another Punjabi movie has been announced and this one’s titled ‘Thappa’. To be helmed by Gurlove Singh Ratol, Thappa will be released under the banner of Seerat Media Productions. The movie is jointly written by Gurlove and Parvinder Singh and is produced by Ramandeep Kaur. The movie is being shot in and around Mohali, Punjab.
Gurlove took to his social media account to make the official announcement. Also Read : Movie Updates: Here’s A List Of All The Punjabi Movies Releasing In August!
The film will feature Sanam Bariar, Jashn Agnihotri, Seema Kaushal, Parvinder Singh, Ritesh Sharma and many more. Interestingly, Seema Kaushal will be seen playing a never before character of ‘Bhoot’ (ghost). Isn’t that interesting?
The genre of the movie was yet an unexplored one for Punjabi Cinema thus, we thought of getting a sneak peek into the behind the scenes details and some inside trivia.
While talking exclusively to GhaintPunjab, Gurlove shared, “The movie is a horror comedy which will revolve around a journalist named Harjit Singh who is famous for making videos with ghosts in haunted houses. Nonetheless, the videos are a hit, but only Harjit knows that his videos are fake. He hasn’t really come across a spirit ever. He earns good money from the videos and purchases a house for himself. Once he shifts, he comes across a ghost (Seema Kaushal) who has been residing in that house for 25 years. And..the ghost says – Thappa!” Also Read : Shehnaaz Gill Wins ‘Promising Fresh Face Award’, Calls It 'Truly Overwhelming'!
With an interesting story, how did you select the cast?
Throwing light on the casting of the film Gurlove said, “The cast of the movie was selected after a series of auditions. The selected actors were apt to play their part.”
How did you come with the idea of this genre and that too for a Punjabi film?
“This was a challenging film to write and execute. Thus, I chose to make it. Horror comedies aren't being made in abundance. So, I wanted to experiment something different. And also, I wanted to put across a question to the audiences - are all spirits bad?,” he shared.
Amidst pandemic, did you face any hardships while shooting?
“Yes, of course. The pandemic has brought with it a lot of changes in the shooting style. Now we work with limited crew and use all precautions while shooting,” said Gurlove.
When can we expect the movie to be released?
“The release date will be announced soon,” signed off the director.
No doubt the story sounds interesting, and if made well, it might prove as a gamechanger in the Punjabi industry. With high hopes, we’re waiting for the announcement of the release date. Also Read : Jagjeet Sandhu Roped In For Disney Plus Hotstar’s Next ‘Escaype Live’
