People across the globe are dying of cancer as the second leading cause of death. In the last 26 years, India's cancer burden has nearly doubled, with breast cancer reportedly increasing at a higher pace. Today, we have lost Laachi Bawa to this deadly disease. The Punjabi folk singer was diagnosed with cancer last year and since then, had been undergoing treatment.
In the past few years, many celebrities including Sonali Bendre, Yuvraj Singh, Tahira Kashyap, and Rishi Kapoor have successfully fought cancer and have been very vocal about their condition and their journey towards fighting it. This has proved to be a motivation for many who are undergoing treatment for cancer.
But surprisingly, not many from the Punjabi industry have opened up about this medical condition which is curable, if treated at the right time. Even Laachi Bawa's diagnosis was reported very late.
A mother, a singer, a teacher and a performer, Laachi Bawa was born on November 22 and she passed away on Wednesday, 12 February 2020. Laachi completed her graduation from GNDU Amritsar in the year 1991.
She was admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana where she was undergoing treatment for cancer.
