For diehard Jasbir Jassi fans, his ‘Dil Le Gayi Kudi’ is their ultimate gospel. In fact, this was the song which made Jasbir Jassi a superstar. If today Jasbir Jassi is known all across the country, then its credit must go to this song.
The track took the entire country by storm when it was released back in 1998. This song brought the decade long struggle of Jasbir Jassi to an end, who became an international star thereafter. All of a sudden, the value of brand Jasbir Jassi became a blue chip in the music industry.
Every music director, right from Bollywood to Pollywood, became anxious to work with Jasbir Jassi. He even started getting the invitation of international shows after the success of Dil Le Gayi Kudi but you would be surprised to know that even during his career peak; he hardly did any shows on his home soil!
That’s because no matter how dearly people outside Punjab would have embraced this song, in Punjab, it didn’t work as per Jassi’s expectations. However, he had to wait for another couple of years to penetrate into Punjabi hinterland.
A big hail to songs like ‘Nishani Pyar Di’ that helped him seep into the hearts of Punjabi audience. Nevertheless, before ‘Nishani Pyar Di’ people used to regard him as an outsider due to the genre of his earlier songs. The Punjabi music buffs found it tough to get along with high-end videos, peppy lyrics and funky music of his songs.
Jassi himself revealed in an interview that the turnaround happened in 2001, with his yet another magnum opus ‘Nishani Pyar Di.’ People didn’t just embrace both Jassi and song with open arms. Thus, after that, there was no looking back for him.
After 2001, Jassi delivered songs like ‘Koka’ and ‘Heer’ which further cemented his place in the hearts of the audience.
Well, indeed all that glitters is not gold.
