Punjabi Music is widely listened even in non-Punjabi reigns and by non-Punjabi people as well. At times, Hindi music directors used to copy music for their songs from western beats but with the arrival of pop culture, Punjabi music expanded its reach and some of the biggest music companies starting showing interest in our regional music.
Harbhajan Maan found immense love from Punjabi people due to his meaningful songs, but his popularity reached new horizons with 'Oye Hoye', an album that was released by T Series in the year 1999.
Its title song Gallan Gorian became a chartbuster in a new time. The song featured Arshad Warsi's wife Maria along with Harbhajan Maan. He recently sang its cover version with Akriti Kakkar in T Series's Mixtape Album. Recently, Oye Hoye marked its 20th anniversary and Harbhajan Maan wrote a special note on his social media handle to thank everyone who supported him for this game changer.
The man wrote, "Today marks the 20 year anniversary of “Oye-Hoye”, or as fans lovingly call it “Gallan Goriyan”. On this day in 1999, this song became a beautiful milestone for me as it found a spot in hearts nation wide pan India and all across the world. More deeply, the success of this song enabled me to be in a position to push boundaries and open doors to create a new chapter in Punjabi Cinema’s history. Bringing along T-Series, the first film with the revered Manmohan Singh, “Jee Aayan Nu” was released, and it built the Punjabi film industry into the strong standing it is in today. Thank you so much for always being the greatest and most supporting fans in the world, here’s to many more years of happy memories with “Oye Hoye"
Though the title song is an all-time blockbuster, the album had a variety of songs including Dhol Mahiya, Laali, Heer Ranjha, Loriyan, Nachdi Jawani, Vichora & Akhiyan. Its music was composed by Jaidev Kumar and the lyrics were by Babu Singh Maan. Its time to revisit the classic album.
