It Starts Again! Punjabi Music Label Head Sandeep Rehaan Gets Extortion Call

By: Amrinder Singh | March 19, 2019

Karan Aujla is a well-known name in the Punjabi music scene and thanks to his controversies with Sidhu Moosewala, he stays in the limelight always. But recently, a gangster has reportedly made an extortion call to Sandeep Rehaan, the owner of Rehaan Records, the company that produces Karan Aujla's music videos and of other singers as well.

According to reports, Sandeep, who is at present staying in a hotel in Chandigarh's Sector - 35, told the police that he received a WhatsApp extortion call on his mobile from a person who demanded Rs 20 lakh. The call was received on March 16 after which the police were informed.

The police said the caller introduced himself as a gangster, whose name could not be revealed. “Since the matter is sensitive, we cannot give details about the case,” said a police official.

A case under Sections 384 (punishment for extortion) and 387 (putting a person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion) of the IPC has been registered at the Sector 36 police station.

This is not the first time that someone associated with the Punjabi music industry has received an extortion call. In April last year, Punjabi singer Parmish Verma was shot at by dreaded gangster Dilpreet Singh and his aides while he was returning home after a performance. The singer was shot at in the leg by assailants trailing his car. The singer’s friend, Laadi, was also injured. Two months later, the Punjab Police and the UT police had, in a joint operation, nabbed Dilpreet near the ISBT, Sector 43, after an encounter.

The singer reportedly paid Rs 20 lakh to the gangster.

The same gang reportedly threatened Gippy Grewal too, after which his family moved to Canada and have not looked back ever since. Another Punjabi singer had also sprung up saying that he too had been threatened but many thought that his howl was merely a publicity stunt.

After Dilpreet's arrest, the industry breathed a sigh a relief but seems like there are other hooligans roaming about in the city, right under the nose of the police officials. Stay aware guys, stay safe.
