Actor Gul Panag came out in support of Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, a day after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal (AAP) attacked her with a comment which said that Kiron is an actress who spends most of her time in Mumbai and is as not concerned about the people of Chandigarh.
Kirron Kher then took to Twitter to clear her stand but surprisingly Gul Panag came in Kher's defense before Kher tweeted a counter revert.
Panag wrote, “Yes Kirron Kher is an actress. But, she has been a dutiful MP & her attendance record in Parliament is over 75 per cent. Further, she spends most of her time in Chandigarh. There have been many good parliamentarians from a plethora of professions – including the film industry.”
In another tweet, Panag wrote “Denigrating someone for their profession is not in good taste. Electoral discourse needs to rise above this kind of talk. It needs to be about real issues. Not personal attacks and whataboutery.” Panag also tweeted in a separate tweet, “And no friends, I’m not planning on joining the BJP. Just saying what needs to be said. Happy Monday.”
Tweet of Panag came after Kejriwal had said that Kher was just acting like a politician as BJP MP from Chandigarh to which Kher replied, "And now that we’re at it, I should share that I was able to get many “firsts” for the city despite not being a “career politician”. In another tweet, she said, "Also, my attendance is over 85%. What’s hilarious is that
@ArvindKejriwal checked about my attendance from Bhagwant Mann. Mr. Mann, whose own attendance is 56% much below the national average. He barely came to the house, so obviously he didn’t see anyone there."
Kirron also replied to Panag for supporting her. She wrote, "Gul, 5 years ago when we fought the election, we both did it with all our might. So today, hearing this comment from my most worthy opponent has truly humbled me."
Let us remind you that Gul Panag had also contested in 2014 parliamentary polls from Aam Aadmi Party against Kirron Kher, a BJP Member. She lost it to her in elections. In a time of mud splashing in politics, its good to see opposite party members standing for a fair stand.
Back in 2014, it was interesting to see two acclaimed actresses fighting for Chandigarh MP seat. What was more interesting is that Gul Panag had dated Kirron Kher's son Sikander Kher for a while, but even then both the ladies remained focused on ground level work without taking personal digs at each other.
