Reliance Jio Infocomm’s over the top (OTT) platform Jio TV has added 14 channels including nine high definition (HD) channels in the last one month to take its total channel offering to 527, as on 25 November.
Of the 527 channels, 99 channels are in high definition (HD) while the rest are standard definition (SD). In October, Jio TV had achieved an important milestone by crossing the 500 channel mark.
Jio TV added five channels in Punjabi and three channels each in Hindi and Kannada. It also added one channel each in English, Bengali, and Telugu. In terms HD channels, the platform added five in Punjabi, two in English, and one each in Hindi, and Malayalam.
As on 16 October, Jio TV’s TV channel offering included 423 SD channels and 90 HD channels. Of the 513 channels, Jio TV is offering 167 channels in Hindi followed by English (75), Telugu (57), Tamil (54), Malayalam (29), Kannada (27), Bengali (17), Marathi (16), Odia (16), Assamese (13), Gujarati (13), Bhojpuri (8), Punjabi (11), Urdu (8), French (1), and Nepali (1).
Jio TV is part of Reliance Jio Digital Services, which also offers other media apps like Jio Cinema, Jio Newspaper and Jio Mags. All these apps are available free to Jio mobile customers.
Apart from live TV channels, the platform is also planning to offer original content. Reliance Jio recently inked a deal with Siddharth Roy Kapur for original content.
