Ravinder Mann : The 90s Punjabi Actress Is Now Open To Good Film Offers!

By: Gurwinder Lotay | May 24, 2017

Ravinder Mann made her debut in Punjabi cinema through a supporting role in Balbir Tanda's Vairee. Even though it was a sister's role but the entire film revolved around her character and she gathered a lot of praises for her role, even more than the leading lady of the film Manjit Kular.

Vairee was a super success and was followed by another successful project titled Baagi Soorme, in which Ravinder played yet another supporting role and that too of a sister. She had her third success in a row with Tabahi, a big hit of that period, making her one of the top actresses of that era and that too in short span of time.

She next had an author backed role in Nain Preeto De, a film that went on to complete 50 days in Punjab reign in times when Punjabi cinema was going through a roller coaster ride.

She next starred in another successful multistarrer named Pratigya. During the same time she was offered a few Hindi and South Indian films. Though she had 2-3 Hindi films offers in hand, but only Dharmendra starrer 'Smuggler' saw a release but turned out to be a minor hit at box office.

She made her successful debut in south industry with Kannada film Ganga Yamuna (remake of Anil, Sridevi, Urmila starrer Judai) in which she played the role which was originally done by Urmila in Judai. She also did Kannada version of Agnisakshi where she reprised the role done by Manisha Koirala. Kannada star Anant Nag played the role of her husband, originally played by Nana Patekar. Ravinder even got the Filmfare Best Actress Nomination(Kannada) for that film.

But she preferred to stick with Punjabi films especially because Punjabi film industry was already seeing a dip. She was praised for her performances in Pachtawa and Laali but most of the Punjabi films were biting the dust. She last starred in a supporting role in National Award winning film 'Main Maa Punjab Dee'. She completed all her pending assignments(some kept releasing till 2003) and refused good offers from south film industry post her marriage to Dr. Sohal.

She also turned down a big Hindi movie with Akshay Khanna post her marriage. Even though there was no objection on her acting career, as she completed some of her film work after marriage, but it was getting difficult to manage acting and family life together. She was leading a blissful life, till one day Dr. Sohal died in a car accident leaving her and their two young sons behind. Her life came to a standstill, but there were two little kids to look after that made her a strong person with time. Her family pressurized her for a second marriage but she was not sure about it. So, after a lot of convincing, she opted for a second marriage with Mr. Sandhu.

She found a supportive soulmate in the form of USA based Mr. Sandhu, who accepted her kids as his own. Today Ravinder is in happy zone.

When asked about coming back on silver screen, Ravinder says, "I am open to good offers."

So all those producers and directors who are busy running after Bollywood actresses for supporting roles, here's your chance to get back our very own Preeto-Laali aka Ravinder Mann to the big screen in Punjab.

I'm sure she'll be a pleasure to watch again :-)
