Global piracy of songs and movies has brought in a major crunch for budding artists, especially those who're trying hard to earn through their talent.
An initiative by leading Punjabi music label Speed Records has lead to a major revolution in the world of music piracy.
Websites such as DJPunjab.com, Khaan.com, DJJohal.com were the one's which have been promoting free pirated downloads and that too so openly that even the artist goes on to say
ke bhaji saada gana es website te vi pvado..which means that these guys used to charge the artists for placing their song links on their pirated website!
Hadh ee hai waise (Grrrr)
After a complaint was filed by Ramandeep Singh of Speed Records, Jalandhar police took action and under the IT Act booked the owners of these websites.
In the complaint, the owners of the website have been named as Tajinder Pal Singh, Ravinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh.
This trio has been making a lot of money online, thanks to the humongous amount of downloads of pirated content including English, Punjabi, Hindi songs, and also adult movies.
Speed Records had recently started a website called
GeetMp3 which is supposedly a website for legal downloading and the owner was unhappy about the fact that pirated websites dampen the initiative of legal downloads. This in return causes a loss to those labels which have collaborated with this company for placing their content on this site.
Two of the main accused have been nabbed by the police while one of the partners is still absconding. Those arrested are now behind bars for a minimum duration of 18 days.
A shocking revelation has come to light that these guys have a lavish office in Mohali and a proper team of professionals is working towards promoting piracy.
