Punjab Jagriti Manch, in collaboration with Sarbat Da Bhala Trust, held a procession in Chandigarh which concluded at the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall, on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, yesterday.
Why did they do it??
Because they wanted the people to know about the importance of the mother language. They organisation even passed nine resolutions relating to the promotion of the language!
What more??
Well, a lot of Punjabi artists were seen shaking a leg on stage to celebrate the mother tongue.
Who all??
Thousands gathered at the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall to witness performances by Punjabi singers Nooran Sisters, Manmohan Waris, Malkiat Singh and Ranjit Bawa.

Who else came?
Reputed Punjabi poets Surjit Patar, Sukhwinder Amrit and writer Waryam Singh Sandhu took part in the event. Surjit Patar said such programmes were very essential to raise awareness among the people about due respect to the mother language. Sukhwinder Amrit also appreciated the efforts for promotion of the language.
Students and teachers from various schools of the city also participated in the procession.

What was their demand basically?
The major demand of the organisations was to get Punjabi language implemented in educational, legislative, executive, legal and business sectors. The Punjab Jagriti Manch demanded that a stern policy on issues relating to education, Punjabi language and culture be formed.
The organisation also called upon the people of Punjab to speak and write in Punjabi in their routine life.
