You Should Know: Facebook To Have A Downvote Button, Testing Starts!

By: Amrinder | February 9, 2018

Now one can register a negative reaction to comments on social media, thanks to Facebook's new feature - the downvote button.

Though it is not a dislike button, as desired by the users since long, but a featue that will help the user to hide the comment for the user who taps it and then asks whether the comment was offensive, off topic or misleading!

“The company has confirmed the test but added it is only intended to be a method for flagging questionable comments on public posts,” The Verge quoted a Facebook spokesperson. .

Notably, downvote view counts not being visible to users.

“We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts. This is running for a small set of people in the US only,” the spokesperson added.

A “dislike” button has been on many users’ wishlist since the social media giant introduced its “like” button in February 2009, according to CNET.

According to Facebook, this is a short-term test that doesn’t affect the ranking of the comment, post, or Page. It’s designed as a way to give feedback to Facebook, not the commenter, and there will be no publicly visible count of how many downvotes a comment gets. The test is running for 5% of Android users in the U.S. with language set to English. The downvote button only appears on public Page posts, not on posts by Groups, public figures or users. There’s currently no plan to expand the test as is.

For all those who still hope that someday Facebook will provide them with a 'dislike' button then here's an answer from the CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself:

“We didn’t want to just build a Dislike button because we don’t want to turn Facebook into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. That doesn’t seem like the kind of community we want to create.”

Even if he wants to create a healthy community but we think that there is way more negativity and trolling on social media than anywhere else in this world!
