Did You Know: Gurdas Mann Once Played Subedar Joginder Singh For A TV Show!
Subedar Joginder Singh is one of the most awaited film for Punjabi film lovers and lead actor Gippy Grewal is leaving no stone unturned to get into the skin of his character.
Aditi Sharma is also coming back to Pollywood with this film, her last being Angrej, opposite Amrinder Gill. Beside Gippy and Aditi there is long list of ensemble cast including Harish Verma, Kulwinder Billa, Guggu Gill, Rajvir Jawanda, Karamjit Anmol, Roshan Prince, Jaggi Singh and more.
But do you know that before Gippy, Gurdas Mann was also seen as Subedar Joginder Singh!
Though it wasn't a film but a TV serial named Param Vir Chakra. Mann played the character of this great martyr in this serial that was aired nearly three decades ago.
Satnam Kaur ,a Punjabi film actress, played the role of his wife.
This Hindi serial was based on real life stories of Indian soldiers who were awarded the distinguished Param Vir Chakra the highest wartime gallantry award by the Indian Army. It was directed by the noted Hindi filmmaker Chetan Anand. It received critical acclaim when it first aired on Doordarshan channel in 1988. The first episode of this series featured the first recipient of the award, Major Som Nath Sharma of Kumaon Regiment.
The series had a huge starcast of some of the industry's most popular names including Farooq Sheikh, Kawaljit Singh,Tom Alter, Sameer Arya, Brando Bakshi, Puneet Issar, and many more.
On the other hand, the 2018 release Subedar Joginder Singh is evidently on the road to become the biggest film in the history of Punjabi cinema and why not, with the kind of performances that these actors promise to have delivered in the film, audiences will have no option but to give it a standing ovation.
This film is also the first ever biopic to be made in Punjabi cinema on the life of a Param Vir Chakra awardee. It is also the first ever Punjabi film to have an official Hindi release. If sources are to be believed, the makers are also planning to release it in Tamil and Telugu.
Subedar Joginder Singh releases on 6th April 2018.
