Punjabi actress Drishtii Grewal, who was last seen in the women oriented flick Hard Kaur, is now pretty busy with her upcoming Hollywood project.
That's right!
She's bagged a Hollywood project. Though this actress has been seen in a very few Punjabi movies but now she has bagged the lead role in the English flick 'Barefoot Warriors'.
Barefoort warriors is directed by Kavi Raz, the same director who made Satinder Sartaaj starrer “The Black Prince” in 2017. After showing the story of Maharaja Duleep Singh, Kavi Raz has now chosen to represent a story onscreen. He seems to be very wisely chosing his fiml's subjects and this time he will be showcasing the story of 1950’s when the Indian Team wasn’t able to play football World Cup because they didn’t have shoes.
Talking to Drishtii about her role, how she bagged this Hollywood project and why suddenly no Punjabi movies in her kitty, she said, "The story barefoot warriors takes it inspiration from the real events that happened in the year 1950 when the Indian footballers couldn’t take part in the Football World Cup because they didn’t have shoes. We show how talent was wasted then. Adding fiction to the story we also show that in 2022 the Indian football team is ready for the world cup again and they battle it to the finals."
"I am playing the role of a school teacher Neeru in the movie. I have a love track with a guy named Christian and you will know more as we release the trailer of the film."
We asked her about the shoot schedule and the release date and Drishtii replied by saying, "The shoot is going on in full swing in a village Bhilla near Ludhiana, most of the movie would be shot here. Just 10 percent of it, where they have to show the World Cup part, would be shot abroad. The team plans to release the movie in September 2018."
"First it would release in English and later we shall be dubbing the movie in Hindi and Punjabi and releasing it in Punjab."
How did you bag this Hollywood movie, we asked and she answered, "It all happened by the grace of the almighty. One of my friends, with whom I worked in Mitti Na Phrol Jogiya referred me for this project. Director Kavi Raz saw my work and was quite impressed. He was the one who thought that I could fit perfectly in the role. Hence, I got this movie."
Now that you have got a Hollywood movie, why no good punjabi movies still in your kitty?
"I have been getting scripts but those aren’t that great...not even good. The same situational comedy without any storyline is what is offered to me every now and then. I want to do something more meaty where I get a chance to influence the audience . Honestly, Punjabi film industry is very hero oriented and they decide the hero first, then they write the script around him and at last they select the heroine, who would just dance and romance him. We haven’t been seeing strong women oriented movies in the industry. I would do something which satisfies the actor in me and not just anything for money."
We are elated that a movie is being made on a story which deserves place in people's mind. Kavi Raz is a prolific director. Having our expectations high we wish the entire team of 'Barefoot Warriors' all the best .
