Sukhchain Singh Cheema Death: Honey Singh Mourns Sukhchain Singh Cheema's Demise

Dronacharya Awardee, eminent wrestler and coach Sukhchain Singh Cheema died in a road accident at the Patiala bypass on Wednesday night.

He belonged to a family with the heritage of wrestling. Sukhchain Singh Cheema was the son of Rustum-e-Hind Olympian wrestler Kesar Singh Cheema and father of Rustum-e-Hind Olympian Parwinder Singh Cheema. Sukhchain, in the year 1974 at the Tehran Asian Games, won a bronze medal.

Kesar Singh, Sukhchain's father, won the “Rustam-e-Hind” and “Bharat Kesri” titles and represented India at the 1952 Olympics. He also established an akhara close to the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, where Sukhchain honed his skills as a wrestler, before taking over as a coach.

Paying homage to this distinguished sportsperson and honourary, Honey Singh quoted, "R.I.P Rustam-E-Hind Sukhchain Singh Cheema Uncle ji Such a great Personality and a great Human being and an idol for a lot of sportsmen , Ehna da Ghata taan poora nahi ho sakda par parmatma saare pariwaar nu bhaana manan da bal bhakhshe Waheguru ohna nu apne charna ch niwas dewe."
