Monika Bedi, now spelled as Monica Bedi, had many ups and downs in heracting career. Ater completing her jail term, she managed to bag two Punjabi films and that too as lead. The films were titled Sirphire and Romeo Ranjha. For Sirphire, she won the best debut award by PTC Punjabi in the year 2013. But not many know that she was to foray into Punjabi films way earlier, in 1990s!
When Monika entered the film industry, she had some good amount of films in her hands but those films could do nothing for her career. Somewhere in 1998, she visited her village Chabbewal in Hoshiarpur for a family function. It was then when she got offered a Punjabi Film 'Chann Mahi', also starring Sonu Walia, Ranjeeta, Ranjeet, Nitu Pandher & Amitoj Mann as main lead. The film was produced by Hoshiarpur based Rajinder Pal Singh and was to be directed by Manpreet Gill (Amitoj Mann's assistant in nearly all his films).
'Chann Mahi' was based on Punjab's militancy days. The film's shoot went on continuously in Hoshiarpur for three weeks but soon Monika Bedi headed towards Mumbai. The Producer started raising funds for the next schedule but Monika was unapproachable thus, resulting in stalling of the film.
Monica got busy with more lucrative bollywood offers (thanks to her underworld connection) but soon news of her involvement with underworld don Abu Salem was everywhere and she was out of India for a certain period of time. Post her jail term (in connection with forged passport & documents), makers of Chann Mahi planned to revive the film again.
According to a Bollywood website, during the promotion of a Punjabi film Kaafila, Amitoj Mann said that he will complete the film if the producers are willing to approach him. But during the same time Monica got an offer from Big Boss and yet again Chann Mahi got shelved.
If sources are to be believed, then Monika is currently busy with a Pollywood project titled 'Bandookan', besides being involved in event shows.
