Moga born Bollywood actor, Sonu Sood, was recently honoured with Punjab Rattan Award by NGO Shaheedon Ki Samadhi Committee in a programme organised by it at Asafwala War Memorial, 7 km from Fazilka, on Sunday.

The award was handed over to him by Governor VP Singh Badnore, who had come to pay obeisance to the martyrs at the memorial which was raised in the memory of 209 jawans of the Army who attained martyrdom during the 1971 Indo-Pak war fought in the Fazilka sector. Sood has been awarded for his contribution to opening free gyms in Punjab, providing free-of-cost education to girls and acid attack survivors in different parts of the country and distributing cycles among them.

"It was a great honour. I can relate to it more because I just finished for one schedule of J P Dutta's 'Paltan' where I'm playing a Major and was in the uniform for two months. Meeting those families and people, who sacrificed their lives for their nation, was a huge honour. I feel blessed. It was all possible because of the blessings of my parents," Sonu said in a statement.
