By: Prakriti | March 11, 2018

'Mitti Wajan Mardi' actress Japji Khaira is one of the most talented actresses of Punjabi industry. Born and brought up in Australia, this woman has always been connected to her roots. She has won 5 pageants but the two most important ones that changed a lot for her were Miss World Punjaban and Miss Punjaban Australia.

These competitions were not just normal beauty pageants where good looking girls with perfect figures won the titles but there was much more that went into it. Miss Punjaban required the contestants to know many important things about Punjabi culture such as boliyaan, tappe and much more. Also, the contestants were required to know household things that women in Punjab do and were famous for, all across the world.

When Japji was auditioned for Miss World Punjaban, she had to show how saag is chopped at a rural Punjabi household. The actress knew the process well and she even recited a “boli” based on saag. Clearly, she knows much about Punjab and is deeply connected with her roots. If today's girls are required to do this task, we are sure that many urban girls would not be able to do it and would wonder how could Japji Khaira do it so well!

Here, take a look at the audition videos of Japji Khaira:

Born on 15th January 1988, Japji Khaira made her acting debut in the movie 'Mitti Waajan Mardi' opposite Harbhajan Maan. She was in Fer Mamla Gadbad Gadbad in the lead role and had a cameo role in the 2011 release Dharti. She also appeared in Gippy Grewal and Surveen Chawla starrer Singh vs Kaur.

Recently, news was that Japji will be making her comeback in the Punjabi industry with Raj Kundra's maiden Punjabi project titled 'Nanak'. It was announced for a March 2018 release and starred Japji Khaira, Diljott and Jassie Gill in titular roles. But now, according to sources, this project has been shelved for sometime and another film by the name 'Rang Punjab' has taken a front seat.

Rakesh Mehta, the director of Nanak while talking to us stated, "My expectations with Nanak are huge, it is a story which is about a father and son and would be very emotional for the audience. We are planning to start the shoot of Nanak this April, and would try and release the movie by the end of this year."
