For the unversed, let us tell you, the actress on last Saturday had registered an FIR against the fraudster at the Goregaon police after she was duped of Rs. 2.24 lakh after clicking a suspicious link on WhatsApp.

It all happened when she was looking for the website of a private hospital in Juhu to book an appointment with an orthopaedic for her mother and clicked on the link which had a photo of the hospital. She dialled on the number displayed to inquire about the timings of the ward when the man introduced himself as an employee of the hospital. He told the actress that the ward was open from 4 pm to 8 pm and asked her to pay ₹5 in order to get a prescription which she would have to show at the hospital. Unfortunately, after she clicked on the link ‘online complaint.apk’, she received a message on her phone that ₹5,000 was debited from her account. “I asked the man who was still on the phone why ₹5,000 was debited, he said that he did not make any transaction. I then opened the net banking app of my three accounts to see what was happening when I received messages from the other two banks that ₹1 lakh from each of the accounts was debited. Within five seconds and I lost ₹2.24 lakh,” said Sandhu.

After she interrogated the man again, he promised to refund the amount and disconnected the phone. She rushed to her bank to stop the payment where she was suggested to reach out to the police. She reached the police station within half an hour where the officers then called up the RBI and blocked the payment but only one of her accounts showed that the payment was blocked.
