Well, one another name that has now been added on to the list is Bollywood’s ‘Janhit Mein Jaari’ which starred Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role.
This light hearted comedy-drama addresses the social stigma around condoms. The film portrays the journey of a young girl who sells condoms for a living, despite societal resistance, and decides to teach her family, in-laws and society at large an important lesson. This socially relevant subject has interested several regional filmmakers as well. Thus, it has been reported that a south production house has approached Bhanushali Studio Limited for the Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi remake rights of ‘Janhit Mein Jaari’ with an A-list female star in each language. The film which has initiated a conversation around such a taboo subject would be interesting to see how it’s adapted for different regional audiences!
By the way, if reports were to believe, a sequel to this one is already on the cards.
Talking about the Bollywood film box office, the film made on a humble budget of 20 crores including the cost for P&A worldwide has already recovered 23 crores in its satellite, digital and music rights. Additionally, it received a 2-crore subsidy from the Madhya Pradesh government and close to 4 crores at the box office, amassing the makers a gross profit of 8 crore already.
