It’s been more than 3 years since Diljit Dosanjh’s Bollywood flick, ‘Soorma’ released but do you know he was not the first choice for the role of ‘Sandeep Singh’.
The movie was inspired by true events and storyline of the film showcased the journey of ace hockey player Sandeep Singh who was accidentally shot during a train journey in 2006. He was almost paralysed after a year but with sheer determination he fought all the odds and learnt to walk again. No doubt, sports biopic based on the life of hockey player was able to strike the right chords with its audience and Diljit’s stellar performance was also able to win over everyone’s heart. However, do you know Diljit Dosanjh was not the first choice for this role?
Actually, it was Ranveer Singh who was being considered for the role earlier but the real life Sandeep Singh wasn’t sure about him. In fact, in an interview, ‘Flicker Singh’ had opened up stating, “We wanted someone who looks real while playing me on screen. Diljit pagwala (turbaned) banda hai, main bhi hoon. ” Furthermore, he had shared that when they had started to work earlier, Diljit was not doing Hindi movies so Ranveer Singh was being considered for the role. However, Diljit starrer ‘Udta Punjab’ and ‘Phillauri’ made the team of ‘Soorma’ to reconsider their decision and rest is the history.
Well, no doubt, when we see Diljit today we can see the amount of hardwork he had put in for the role and even we can’t imagine anybody else doing this role.
