Punjab Kabaddi Player Sandeep Nangal Shot Dead In Jalandhar

Sandeep Nangal Ambian (originally Sandeep Singh Sandhu), was an international Kabaddi player who was shot dead in Jalandhar during the course of a tournament. In a video of the incident that has gone viral, multiple gunshots can be heard. Sandeep was declared dead on 14th March 2022.

Hailing from Nangal Ambian village, Sandeep was a professional circle kabaddi player and played in the stopper position. He had ruled the sport for more than a decade and played in Canada, the US and the UK, other than Punjab. He used to visit Punjab every year to participate in kabaddi tournaments. As per reports, the incident took place at Mallian Kalan village in Jalandhar’s Nakodar subdivision, where Sandhu, had been honored by the committee of a kabaddi tournament. After he was felicitated, Sandhu exited the ground where the tournament was being held when the four assailants arrived in a car, fired multiple shots at him, and fled.

An investigation has been started by the police. A senior Kabaddi organizer close to Sandeep also said that the gangsters were involved in the kabaddi game and were attempted to dictate the tournaments that players should participate in. Currently, his body has been kept at the mortuary in Civil Hospital in Nakodar till the post mortem. He is survived by his wife and two sons, who live in the United Kingdom.
