International Sikh Influencers You Might Have Missed!

There was a time when having a turban was a hindrance in making a career as a model. Luckily, with time this route has opened up and so many fresh faces have had the opportunity to pursue modeling. Still, there have been cases wherein foreign models were used to represent the Sikh culture.

So for those who are not familiar with these, here are some of the most famous Sikhs who chose to model and work in the Fashion space internationally!

Waris Ahluwalia

Waris Ahluwalia is not just a designer turned actor and model but also an entrepreneur with a soft corner for elephants. He has his own fashion company called ‘House Of Waris’ which sells not just jewelry but also scarves, accessories and herbal teas among other things. Not just this, in a rare honor he even had October 19 declared as ‘Waris Ahluwalia Day’ in New York City! Wow, right? Harjas Singh

The model Harjas Singh, as described by himself as a “fashion consultant, blogger and butter chicken enthusiast bringing his own spice to fashion”. Singh has a savvy fashion sense, which he used to create a successful online brand that has got the spotlight even among bigger names. This quirky model has also featured in mainstream national campaigns, walked in Toronto Fashion Week, and even had his face broadcast at Yonge-Dundas Square, Canada.

Vish Singh

Vish Singh is a runway model signed in with ‘We Speak’ Model Management Company. The company focuses on uprooting norms and changing fashion standards in the fashion industry. They do so by collaborating with companies with a clear goal and at the same time keeping in mind the models’ safety. Looking at the company he works we, it is pretty clear that like many others Singh’s motive is to push forward cultural representation. An influencer who can rule the runway, Karan Kaur is a fashion blogger from Australia. She is the first female Sikh blogger in the world to make her turban the centerpiece of her blog. Kaur’s motto is ‘modest yet stylish clothing’ and has inspired many Sikh women to follow their fashion sense while representing the Sikh religion proudly. Kaur even wants to design for women of her religion so that they can find clothes as per their needs. Kaur’s blog took off as soon as she started it which made her known in the fashion space as well. Harnaam Kaur

Yet another unconventional face in the industry, Harnaam Kaur gained recognition thanks to her beard. Yes you read it right! Kaur, who was born in England was diagnosed with PCOS which results in excessive facial and body hair growth. As she grew up, Kaur decided to fight against societal norms and let her hair grow instead of shaving them constantly. Due to her appearance, Kaur became a spokesperson for the body positivity movement and further a motivational speaker. Kaur does not back away from any challenge and now the influencer is also starting her own page called ‘Harnaam Kaur Beauty’.

Sukhman Gill

While talking about international turbaned models, how can we forget the Toronto-based architect, model and actor, Sukhman Gill. Since childhood, Gill wanted to stand out from the crowd and be an inspiration to people. Gill’s modeling career began with Instagram when he saw that there were not many Sikh faces on this platform and jumped to grab this opportunity. In just an impressive 1.5 years, Gill became successful and managed to take part in some huge commercials and campaigns.
