Do You Know About Sunil Dutt’s Work In Punjabi Films?

Indian actor, film producer, director and politician, not to forget the father of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Dutt was a man of many talents.

He was born in a Punjabi Hindu family as Balraj Dutt, to father Diwan Raghunath Dutt and mother Kulwantidevi Dutt in Nakka Khurd, Punjab Province, British India (now in Punjab, Pakistan). Also Read: Paani Ch Madhani Review: Naresh Kathooria’s Story Brought Out Very Finely By Vijay Kumar Arora

Dutt began his career in radio on the Hindi service of Radio Ceylon, the oldest radio station in South Asia. Then he made his debut in Hindi films from the 1955 film ‘Railway Platform’. 

Over the years, Sunil Dutt rose to stardom, married actress Nargis Dutt, started directing and producing films, introduced Sanjay Dutt to B-Town and even became the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in the Manmohan Singh government (2004–2005).

Even though he belongs to a Punjabi family, Dutt never really veered towards building a name in the Punjabi Industry except for a limited number. Also Read: These Women Centric Punjabi Movies Are A Must Watch

Did you know that Sunil Dutt acted in three Punjabi movies?

Surprisingly, they were all movies that were released during the 1970s, namely— ‘Man Jeete Jag Jeet (1973)’, ‘Dukh Bhanjan Tera Naam (1974)’, and ‘Sat Sri Akal (1977)’. 

Other than this, he never really partook in any other Punjabi film. Dutt died of a heart attack on 25 May 2005 at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai, two weeks before his 79th birthday. Also Read: Navtej Sandhu's Punjabi Film 'Jamraud' To Finally Release?
