On 14th October, 2006 the Punjabi Industry lost a rising star. Even 15 years later, the singer Soni Pabla remains alive in the public’s hearts. For all the fans who still listen to his songs, read ahead to know Pabla’s whole story!
Born on June 29, 1976 to father Mohinder Singh and mother Nirmal Kaur in Bilaspur Village, Punjab, Tejpal Singh Pabla, who later on made his name as Soni Pabla, was the youngest of his siblings. Pabla did his schooling from Bilaspur itself and then he completed his graduation in Political Science. His father, who worked in Punjab Roadways, passed away when Pabla was really young. After completing his studies, Pabla shifted to Toronto, Canada in 1994. Out of his four sisters, two lived in Canada, while two were in India.
Pabla had an interest in music since childhood, however, he never thought of it as a career. When he moved to Canada, he started working in a factory, but somehow his finger got cut off. It was only once he started learning about music from the musician Rajinder Singh Raj that he sold his truck and decided to pursue a career in singing. It was Raj who led Pabla towards a recording contract with Planet Recordz, a record label in Canada. His debut album ‘Heeray Heeray’ was released in 2002 and its songs were loved by the public.
This was just the beginning! In 2004, Pabla paired up with Sukshinder Shinda to create another masterpiece. Their album ‘Gal Dil Di’ was produced by Velocity records and each of its songs was a hit. But sadly, time is uncertain and when Pabla was at the peak of his career, an incident took it all away. On 14 October 2006, Pabla was performing at the ‘Patiala Nights’ concert in Brampton, Canada. After he had sung four songs, he took a break and went backstage since he wasn’t feeling well.
He was given a glass of water by his friends, but he collapsed before he could drink it. His friends tried to revive him but he was declared dead as soon as the ambulance got to the scene. His album ‘Eternity (Naseebo)’ (2008) was a tribute to Soni by his friends and Planet Recordz. This album featured new songs which Soni had selected for his album. Some songs in this album feature other Punjabi singers. Not only this, another album of his songs named ‘Unfinished Project’ was released in the year 2013.

The singer has left us with memorable songs like ‘Gal Dil Di’, ‘Pairan Ch Panjeb Yaar Di’, ‘Pyar Diyan Chithian’ and ‘Boli Pauni’ to name a few, which will be liked by generations to come.
