‘Wamiqa Gabbi’ today needs no introduction. Owing to her immense acting skills, she has made name for herself in the Punjabi industry. Why just Punjabi industry she has worked in several other regional films as well including Tamil and Telugu proving her mettle in acting.
With immense hard work that she has put in for so many years she was able to bag several Bollywood projects which were no less than an icing on cake. Her performance in Disney plus Hotstar’s ‘Grahan’ went on to win over several hearts but this was not her Bollywood debut because there are several Bollywood films of which ‘Ishq Brandy’ actress has been a part of but we bet you did not know about these movie because of her comparatively lesser screen space. Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Jab We Met’ was released in 2007 had touched more than a million hearts with the Punjabism it carried and not to forget the cute character played by Kareena in it. But do you know this evergreen movie had also starred Wamiqa where she had played an essential role but looked unrecognisable because of her braces. After all, the girl was in her teens then! This 2009 release starred Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone as the main lead alongwith Rishi Kapoor, Vir Das, Rahul Khanna and many more.
In the movie, Wamiqa had a very short part while she was seen dancing in a dance sequence. Even in the song, she couldn’t be recognized for the artificial moustache she has donned. Have a look!

Once again Wamiqa became the part of this big film which starred Shahid Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor in the main lead. Though this 2011 release couldn’t do well on the box-office but the music of the movie was widely loved. Wamiqa had played one of the friends of Sonam, a typical rural girl. She was seen several times on screen.
This one was released in 2012 which starred Pulkit Samrat, Amita Pathak, Fatima Sana Sheikh and many more.
In fact, our ‘Punjabi mutiyaar’, Wamiqa had also shared screen with other star cast as well. Not just in one or two scenes but this time she had a relatively significant role in the film. The name of her character was ‘Nikki’. The movie had portrayed the story of a videographer who squanders away his earnings. However, his life changes when he falls in love with a girl. Most of the people think Wamiqa made it big in the tinsel town with ‘Grahan’ but that's not true!
This versatile actress has already starred as a lead in a Bollywood movie and that too opposite Keith Sequeira. The name of the movie was ‘16’ which was released in the year 2013. The movie was strong enough to address bold issues of modern teenage including infatuation, teenage pregnancy, friendship, loyalty and dysfunctional family, and the makers showed it in a pretty elaborate manner. The name of Wamiqa’s character was ‘Tanisha’ who lives with her aunt and falls in love with a guy who stays as their tenant, and the aunt plans to tie the knot with him.
Intersyigly, Wamiqa did not even audition for this role. Actually, she had auditioned for another movie under the same production house but she later got a call for this movie because the makers saw potential in her to do a strong movie like this.
Well, if you haven’t seen this movie you must watch it. This movie even got nominated for Best Ensemble Cast at Life OK Screen Awards in the year 2014.
