Punjabi movies are generally known for comedy films; in fact, it has become a stereotype that the Punjabi film industry only produces comedy films. Nonetheless, public perception is gradually shifting. Hands down, the comedy genre has always been a favourite of the Punjabi audience, which has received a very positive response.

Let’s look at a list of the funniest Punjabi movies based on their IMDb rating!


This Smeep Kang directorial portrayed the story about a man who lies to his lady love about him being an orphan which leads him to several problems. These problems are hilarious situations where he tries to hide the truth. The movie starred Gippy Grewal and Mahie Gill in the lead roles alongside Gurpreet Ghuggi, Khushboo Grewal, Binnu Dhillon, Preeto Sawhney and many more. This 2019 released was directed by Janjot Singh. The movie starred Simi Chahal and Amrinder Gill in the lead roles alongside Garry Sandhu, Seema Kaushal, Iftikhar Thakur, Nasir Chinyoti and others. The movie was about six illegal immigrants trying to make a living in the United Kingdom while fearing a raid. However, they develop a friendship and take care of each other. BAMBUKAT – (7.6):

‘Bambukat’ was released in the year 2016. The movie was helmed by the ace director Pankaj Batra which starred Ammy Virk, Simi Chahal, Binnu Dhillon, Sheetal Thakur, Karamjit Anmol, Sardar Sohi and many more. The movie of the story portrays the story of two sisters. The inferiority complex Channan Singh (Ammy Virk) has to go who falls in love with Pakko (Simmi Chahal) as he owns a cycle. after Resham Singh (Binnu Dhillon) who happens to be the brother in law of Pakko arrives with his new ‘Bambukat’ (Motorbike) and the discrimination that follows. Directed by Simerjit Singh starring Sonam Bajwa and Ammy Virk in the lead roles was released in the year 2016. The movie also starred Nirmal Rishi, Gurmeet Saajan, Karamjit Anmol, Harby Sangha and many more. This one is a story about Nikka (Ammy Virk) who falls in love with his nephwe’s teacher, Manraj Kaur (Sonam Bajwa) but ends up getting engaged to her sister which causes a comedy of errors at their houses. Well, it is important to mention here that though everyone played their character with utmost conviction but Nirmal Rishi stole the show.


This one is another epic Punjabi movie which was released in the year 2012. This was directed by Anurag Singh starring Neeru Bajwa and Diljit Dosanjh. The movie also featued Jaswinder Bhalla, Upasana Singh, Rana Ranbir, B.N. Sharma and many more.

This one is a stoy based on two people from Punjab who meet in Canada. Despite being difeerent from each other, the two end up falling in love with each other.

Well…well…any Punjabi movie list is incomplete without the mention of this movie. So, Yaar Anmulle released in 2011 was also directed by Anurag Singh. The movie starred Yuvraj Hans, Harish Verma, Arya Babbar, Jividha Sharma, Shivinder Mahal and others.

This Pankaj Batra directorial was released in the year 2014 and starred Amrinder Gill, Binnu Dhillon, Amrit Maghera, Rana Ranbir and others. The story of the movie depicted the love story of two people belonging to different cultures and countries who fall in love with each other.


The year 2011 saw the release of another comedy movie titled, ‘Jihne Mera Dil Luteya’. The movie starring Neeru Bajwa, Gippy Grewal and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead roles. The movie depicted a love triangle between two college boys and a girl. As both try to win her heart the film follows several funny incidents which leave everyone in splits. Kala Shah Kala starring Sargun Mehta and Binnu Dhillon in the lead roles was released in the year 2019. The movie was directed by Amarjit Singh and Amarjit Singh Saron. The movie portrayed the story of Lovely (Binnu Dhillon), a dark-complexioned man who gets married to Pammi (Sargun Mehta). MR. & MRS. 420 – (7.2):

It is a story of three individuals who wished to follow their passion but ends up in some hilarious situations after they move to another town in search of better oppportunities.
