Now A Turbaned Sikh Character To Be Featured In The US’ Kids Animated Series ‘Arthur’

‘Arthur’ an educational television series for kids is coming back for another season on September 6, 2021. The show is now grabbing even more attention among the Punjabi audience with the introduction of a turban-wearing Sikh character. In the glimpses shown during the promotions, we can see a new character wearing a turban and a Golden Kara!

This series is one of the longest running kids’ animated series in the U.S. known for teaching kindness, empathy and inclusion through many groundbreaking moments for its viewers. The show is written by Marc Brown and developed by Kathy Waugh, co-creator of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) where the show is aired. Arthur Read, the main character of the show is an 8-year-old aardvark who lives in a town of Elwood City. The show focuses on daily issues faced by a child in the modern world.

Now, the addition of the Sikh character brings a sense of pride to the entire Punjabi community as well. The representation has left the audience excited while also helping the show increase its viewership. Even though, this is not the first time a Sikh character has been shown in a foreign show but because ‘Arthur’ is a major children’s show, it is an important feat. Earlier, a ‘turbaned’ character was introduced in Disney Pixar Movie’s ‘Turning Red’.
