Nirmal Kaur, former Director of Sports for Women in the Punjab Government and ex- captain of Indian women volleyball team who is also the wife of legendary sprinter Milkha Singh passed away at 4 p.m. on Sunday. at a Mohali hospital at the age of 85. She was suffering from the complications related to Covid-19 infection that she had contracted last month.

Let us tell you she had tested positive for Covid-19 last month and had been in the ICU. However, hospital authorities had already informed earlier this week that her health had worsened and was being treated with fluctuating oxygen levels.
"A backbone of the Milkha Family, she was 85 years old. It is tragic that the Flying Sikh Milkha Singh ji could not attend the cremation which was conducted this evening itself as he is still in the ICU (of PGIMER in Chandigarh) himself”, a statement from the spokesperson of Milkha family said. "The family has expressed its grateful thanks to everyone for their solidarity and prayers right through the battle which gave them the strength to face it bravely". As soon as the news of her demise surfaced, several renowned dignitaries poured in their condolences through their respective social media handle.
