Famous Sikh scholar Kulwant Singh Grewal passed away today this morning. He was admitted to a local hospital when his health condition deteriorated where he breathed his last at 2:00 a.m. He has served as the head of Punjabi department in the Punjabi University. Kulwant hailed from Sangrur, Punjab and he was living in Patiala with his family from quite some time. He will be cremated today at 12:30 in the afternoon at Kalodi Gate, Patiala.
He was the only contemporary poet to write in both the Bengali and Punjabi literary circles. His books ‘Tera Ambran Te Naa Likheya’ and ‘Asi Patt Daryawaan De’ received a huge appreciation from people. Not only this, he has also written books in various languages including English, Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi.
Not only this, among many of his accomplishments, he has been awarded the Dhaliwal Award in poetry and the Shiromani Kavi Award in 2014. He has also been honoured by the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC), Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar. After retirement from the Punjabi University, Patiala, as Director, Professor Grewal remains associated as a Senior Fellow.
