President Ram Nath Kovind will award Agra farmer Nihal Singh, 27, with ‘Jeevan Raksha Padak’ (gallantry award) for saving the lives of 20 people. It all happened when a state roadways bus fell down from a bridge into a narrow drain on Yamuna Expressway on July 8, 2019. About 29 passengers were killed in the accident.
Nihal was working in his field that time and he was shocked to hear a loud crashing sound. He immediately reached the spot and saw people trapped in the bus. Showing immediate intelligence, he jumped into the drain and broke glass of the bus. He was also able to open the jammed door and release the injure people out of the bus.
According to the letter, the Jeevan Raksha Padak comprises a medal, certificate and lump sum monetary allowance which will be presented to him on behalf of the President by the government of Uttar Pradesh.
