Sukhdev Madpuri, the Punjabi author, who was conferred the 2015 Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, has left for his heavenly abode. The man passed away at the age of 84.
Sukhdev Madpuri was born to Daya Singh and Surjit Kaur on 12 June 1935 at Madpur village in Samrala, Ludhiana. He did his high school from Government High School Jaspalon and ended up bagging a teaching job at a primary school after doing his Junior Basic Training (JBT) that too at the age of 19 years only. He did not give up on his education and continued studying through private classes. An MA in Punjabi, Sukhdev Madpuri continued teaching till the year 1978 after which he joined the Punjab Education Board where he served till the year 1993. After his retirement in the year 1993, he went on to pursue his passion for writing folk literature including stories, riddles, and more.
The man has published more than 40 books including Gaunda Punjab, Bujhartaan, Phullan Bhari Changer, Khand Mishri Diyan Dalliyan, Punjab Diyan Lok Khedan, Paraeya Dhan, Naina De Vanjare, and more.
He passed away on 26 April 2020 in Khanna, Punjab.
