Jayshree Gadkar was an iconic actress of Marathi Cinema in the period between the 50s and early 80s. She had done many Hindi films and was most frequently seen in mythological films and characters.
She had played the role of Lord Ram’s mother Kaushalya in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan. In the same serial, her husband Bal Dhuri played her on-screen husband Dasharatha.
Not many know that this iconic actress of Marathi Cinema had also done a Punjabi film. Surprisingly, even in the Punjabi film, she was seen in a mythological role. It was Dara Singh’s Bhagat Dhanna Jatt, in which Jayshree Gadkar was seen in the role of Goddess Lakshami.
The film was made in Hindi as Kisan Aur Bhagwan. The Film had Dara Singh, Yogita Bali, Abhi Bhattacharya, Padma Khanna, and Jayshree Gadkar in lead roles.
Not many must be aware that this was the only Punjabi film she had done in her lifetime. Jayshree Gadkar passed away in the year 2008 at the age of 66.
Jayshree had acted in about 250 films over a period of four decades!
