Surbhi Jyoti is one of the leading television actresses who has won over the tele audiences with her performance in shows like Qubool Hai, Nagin and more. But not many must be aware of the fact that before entering the tele-world on a big scale, Surbhi did a lot of work in the Punjabi acting field.
Born and brought up in Jalandhar, Surbhi completed her schooling from Shiv Jyoti Public School and did her graduation from Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya. She did theatre plays and went on to become a radio jockey. She did anchoring for Jalandhar Doordarshan and eventually got to act in a serial titled Bhaganwaliyan (2009) which was one of the rare commercial setup series of Jalandhar Doordarshan. She played one of the leads in the serial.
Soon she ventured into films with a side role in Manmohan Singh’s Ik Kudi Punjab Di (2010). During the same period, she appeared in two television series namely Kach Dian Wangan and Akhiyan To Door Jaavi Na. Later on, she was seen in another sidekick role in the forgettable Munde Patiale De.
As a Punjabi film actress, Surbhi got a big opportunity with the lead role opposite Ravinder Grewal in the film Raula Pe Gaya. The film gathered negative reviews but Surbhi was noticed for her acting potential, in fact, the film went on to do reasonable business at the box office.
But Surbhi was unable to make a mark. She soon shifted her base to Mumbai and Zee’s Qubool Hai, a Muslim romantic social, gave her the much deserving fame with her character Zoya. That show, which started in 2013, kept her busy till 2016, and in the meantime, she did a few more shows as well. Nonglamorous Surbhi Jyoti went through a complete makeover in terms of her looks! (Just check her previous pictures and the recent ones).
Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai With Jassie Gill
Her last major work was in Nagin and now, she has signed a Bollywood film 'Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai'. She will be seen opposite Punjabi singer-actor Jassie Gill. It is indeed a big step for this Jalandhar Girl. From theatre plays to Hindi-Punjabi TV Series to Web Series, music videos, ads and playing the lead in Punjabi film to now, a Bollywood film heroine, Surbhi has come a long way in a decade.
Look at the way our Punjabi film industry functions!
Our very own Punjab based girls go to Mumbai when they don’t get quality work over here in Punjabi films and soon their potential is recognized by either the tele world or b-town. But here, on the other hand, Mumbai girls are coming to work and some get accepted while the others are just a one movie fame. But you never know, maybe Surbhi does get approached for Punjabi films too.
