Veteran actress Nirmal Rishi made her acting debut with the famous movie Long Da Lishkara which released in 1982. Her role as Gulabo Massi was her claim to fame, it left a strong impact on the minds of many.

Today, undeniably she is the pillar of most Punjabi movies. Single-handedly she has been raising the bar of many Punjabi films which fall weak when it comes to the other departments. Having great skills the actress has made it to Bollywood and Netflix too.

  • Born in Mansa, Nirmal Rishi is an M.Phil degree holder in Physical Education from Punjabi University Patiala.
  • Before becoming an actress, she joined Khalsa College for Women as Physical education lecturer. She was 26 years old at that time. The actress worked for 34 years and retired as the head of the physical education department in 2003.
  • Being in the job, she remained connected to her passion and kept performing with the famous groups of Punjab Kala Manch.
  • Post her retirement, the actress formed her theatre group named “Alive Artiste” which promoted theatre artists.
  • We all know that she has done many Punjabi movies, but not many know that she has also worked in serials like Jija Ji, Kach Diyan Wangan, Do Akal Garh and Nasihat Dal Dal.

  • Award and honor for the best cultural show in Ludhiana National Games 2003.
  • Award at Sant Singh Sekhon Yaadgari Puruskaar in 2003
  • In the year 2012, she won the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award given to her by President Pranab Mukherjee.
  • Filmfare award as Best Actor in Supporting Role for Nikka Zaildar 2.
  • PTC life time achievement award in the year 2017
