Diljit Dosanjh is the Urban Pendu, who has taken Bollywood by storm with his heart stealing performances in Udta Punjab, Phillauri and Soorma. Daljit Singh, a native of Dosanjh Kalan, though became Diljit with the release of his first album in 2000 but had to wait till 2005 for getting his due recognition. Diljit’s song ‘Proper Patola’ in 2013 was the first ever Punjabi video to feature on Vevo. The video touched the 1 million views mark on YouTube within no time.

Since then, the singer hasn’t looked back and has delivered a number of hits such as Lak 28 Kudi Da and Goliyaan, which occupied the top positions on various charts for quite a while. Diljit is also credited for opening up the Bollywood space for turban-clad youngsters who were earlier craving for some screen space because earlier there was a perception that the scope for turban-clad actors in Bollywood is quite limited. Diljit managed to change the entire narrative through his robust performances, so much so that his popularity made many opt for an onscreen turbanned look, but not even one could compete with the original Sardarji

Diljit recently appeared in an interview where he revealed that in his initial days he once performed for just ₹2,500 rupees although he was promised ₹5,000!

He also added that the amount of ₹2,500 was a substantial amount for him back then. Well, that’s indeed true because he commenced his musical journey by singing religious hymns in local Gurudwaras and attained success by almost starting from scratch.

Diljit was born in an average middle-class family and his father was employed with Punjab Roadways. The simplicity and humility in his behavior are revered by his fans and followers. In the same interview, he also disclosed the fact that has never taken undue advantage of being a celebrity and probably this is the reason why a lot of people worldwide shower their love on him.
