There is hardly anyone who hasn’t watched or at least heard about Yaaran Naal Baharan. This Jimmy Sheirgill-Juhi Babbar starrer movie was one of the biggest commercial hits of the year 2005.

Critics believe that ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ was an essential juncture from where the paradigm shift in Punjabi film making took place. The success of ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ opened up new horizons for the Punjabi Cine Think-tank.

In the entire history of Punjabi film industry, ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ was the first-ever movie to have its sequel. Though dozens of hit movies were made before ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ but none of them could advance to the stage of a sequel.

As mentioned earlier, this movie was one of the highest-grossing films of the year 2005, therefore its success eventually pushed the makers to pursue the idea of a sequel. This movie remained a hot topic of discussion among the Punjabi movie buffs throughout the year 2005. Fantastic plot, exotic shoot locations, and impressive star cast of this movie was like a fresh breeze of air in the Punjabi industry.

So, its makers finally decided to go for its sequel when they came across the overwhelming response of the audience. However, the fans of ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ had to wait for another seven years to see their favorite characters once again on the silver screen.

However, to the surprise of many almost every member of the part one was replaced by a new one in the sequel. Goldie Sumal and Rishita Monga replaced the lead characters of Jimmy Shergill and Juhi Babbar. Whereas the prime supporting roles of Raj Babbar and Anupam Kher were swapped with Yograj Singh and Shivinder Mahal.

Also, the charge of direction too went to Sumit Brar from Manmohan Singh. And upon its release, ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan 2’ could not repeat the success of its prequel. But the prequel did lead to a new trend which was followed by ‘Carry on Jatta’ and ‘Jatt & Juliet.’

The Punjabi film industry is rising like no other, there is surely a lot to look out for in the near future.
